iPhone Finally Comes to Verizon

VERIZON IPHONE

The Verizon iPhone, rumored to come out since the original in 2007, is finally here. Considering that I've wanted one since then, the question is whether or not it's worth it. Three main reasons that you have to consider before owning the iPhone are the performance, price, and how useful it really is.

Performance is the primary reason that Apple has been so successful over the 35 years its been in operation. Every single one of their products have been top of the line, popular items, and judging from their stock, they've gained popularity. As for the iPhone, it's managed to earn top of the line reviews from most anyone who has one. The interface has amazing simplicity, and is the best I've seen. Each individual app performs fabulously, even when switching in between applications using the multi-tasking option. To continue, one of my favorite parts is the functionality of the camera. It feels as if you're carrying around a top-of-the-line camera, but amazingly it's a device only .37 inches thick. The list could go on forever, but just from these few instances, the performance can be considered above the average rating.

The price ($199) of the iPhone is the same in comparison to most other smart phones with a 2-yr-contract, but once you step out of that, Apple will slam you with a $600 charge for the 16GB iPhone, $700 for the 32GB, and it goes up from there. Yes other smart phones have the raised charges for the phone without a contract, but Apple manages to win in the top price battle. From my perspective $700 for a phone is outrageous, and would probably decide to wait until my update is up. From a  financial perspective, a tight budget  doesn't agree with this phone. This is because not only do you have to pay for the texting and voice plan, but they add in the $30 monthly charge for internet capabilities and it's mandatory. So before making a snap decision on getting  this phone, you always have to consider the long-term fees incorporated within the purchase.

From past experiences, I know that smart phones are great, but realized that without a real purpose to have one, it's a waste. When looking at the iPhone, it has a vast array of incredible features including a great web browser, email, iPod, and apps that help get everyday tasks done. For instance, when using the iPhone, you can click on the weather channel app and within seconds see a seven-day forecast. Many people don't bother investing the money in smart phones because they believe that even if they did have the option to use the web browser, it would be too slow to use. With the iPhone that isn't the case at all. Web speeds using 3G service surprised me everywhere I went. Beyond that, my recommendation is to have a reason behind purchasing an iPhone. Yes all the features are great, but it really comes down to the difference between wanting it or needing it.
